World Fantasy Awards - 1975 to Present

The World Fantasy Awards are presented each year at the World Fantasy Convention. The convention takes place in a different city each year.

In 2009, the convention was held in San Jose, California from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.

Members attending are authors, art professionals, book dealers and art dealers.

Novels nominated must have been published the previous year and the authors must be living. Fantasies nominated can be either light or dark fantasy. "Light fantasy" usually contains elements of magic and humor - as in Alice in Wonderland. "Dark Fantasy" may contain vampires (as in Anne Rice's novels), demons or may have elements of horror.

The World Fantasy Awards began in 1975.
