I have several volumes of a Worthington Pubishers set entitled Dickens' Works. They were published in the 1890's. I am interested in what sort of value they have. I am not interested in selling just in obtaining information for my children to whom I wish to give the books. They belonged to my great grandfather. Thanks

The Works ofCharles Dickens in Thirty Volumes by: Sandra Gunn
I have an incomplete volume of thirty works of charles dickens. The books are burgandy bound with an imprinted likeness of Dickens on the front and there is an imprint on the spine of the book. I have a total of 24 and there are 6 missing. These volumes have know publishing dates and are showing P.F. Collier and Sons, New York. I've had them for twenty years, there in perfect condition aside from aging. Missing are; volumes 3,5,11,15,16, and 27. I would really like to know the value of these books. I'm sure there not the 1st editions, but they may be reprints before editing, for I've found numerous errors in the print.

Real or Fake? by: Anonymous
I have 14 volumes (of a 15 volume set) entitled, Dickens' Works, (Illustrated), circa 1884. Dark green cover with a picture of Dickens "embossed" on top left side of front. Pictures illustrated by F. Barnard.Key here is the publisher: R. Worthington, New York which is printed inside on title page and in a "gold banner" on spine at bottom. I cannot seem to validate this as a legitimate set of books. Can anyone help?

Have 29 of 30 of this set by: Athena
I was amazed to see the same set of books that my Grandfather gave me. If the gold lettering on the binding means they were the anniversary set, what year would they have been published?

The price for 25 volumes was $150 for the whole set. Not each individual book. And this is the anniversary edition.

The Works of Charles Dickens by: Bob
I found many sets of Charles Dickens books that were printed from 1870 to 1911 by P. F. Collier. These are reprints. The first editions were printed in England in the 1840s to the 1860s and will always be most valuable.
A search in ABE came up with this set of volumes that may be close to yours:
"P. F. Collier, NY, NY, 1911. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Red blind stamped bds. w/gilt. This is the Anniversary Edition. Titles in this set are: Old Curiosity Shop, Barnaby Rudge, Sketches by "Boz", Christmas Stories, Domby & Son (Part 1 & 2), Bleak House (Part 1 & 2), Pickwick Papers (Part 1 & 2), Martin Chuzzlewit (Part 1 & 2), Tale of Two Cities, Our Mutual Friend (Part 1 & 2), Christmas Books, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickelby (Part 1 & 2), David Copperfield (Part 1 & 2), Child's History of England, Little Dorrit (Part 1 & 2), and Oliver Twist. 2 Volumes have water spots to bds., 2 Volumes have small tears at crown of spine, 1 Volume has cracked inner hinges, 4 Volumes have light ext. soil. All volumes have light wear to spine ends & corners."
The volumes were offered for $150. It looks like you may be able to buy the missing volumes to make a complete set.
