Sometimes you have to dig for treasure!
What you described does happen... and it may be more frequent than people believe. Not every chain store location sells books at the same rate.

Recently I found "The Girl Played With Fire" in a First printing among two 12th printings at my local Barnes and Noble.

Yesterday I found two Firsts of "Roses" at another Barnes & Noble location. I was on the lookout for "Roses" after having it seen on this site!

Keep digging!

Great story! Thanks for posting it.

I looked for this book at Book People in Austin but found no firsts. I had to pay a little more for mine.

I make a habit of looking at the number lines of potentially valuable books when I'm in a new book store.
