The Shamus Awards are presented each year by the Private Eye Writers of America (PWA). This organization was founded in 1981 by Robert J. Randisi.
Books accepted for consideration have a professional investigator as the protagonist. This definition excludes mystery books with amateur detectives, police officers, sheriffs or other government agents.
PWA has a quarterly newletter called Reflections In a Private Eye.
The Awards are presented each year at the BoucherCon Mystery Convention ... usually held in September.
