Roses by Leila Meacham

by Bob
(Texas)

Roses

Roses

My wife got roses for Valentine's Day and I got Roses ... the book by Leila Meacham. She is a retired schoolteacher who lives in San Antonio, Texas. And her book is No. 10 on the bestseller list.

I just discovered it yesterday when I was browsing on www.Lemuriabooks.com. A woman who works there said she hadn't read it because they were selling it to quickly and couldn't keep it in stock.

It just came out on Jan 6th. 75,000 copies reported to be in the first printing. It is already in the second printing. (A bestselling book is one that has sold 100,000 copies.)

I found a few firsts at Barnes and Noble and bought two. Most had problems as this is a big book.

Look carefully at the number line for a "1". And examine the book carefully ... take off the dustjacket and look at the boards for dents and bumps.

The book will be getting a lot of notice so don't wait long if you want one.

Oh, what is it about? It is a story that takes place in east Texas. Being called an epic (possibly like Gone With The Wind or The Thorn Birds) told of three generations about cotton and timber empires.

This may be the March Collectible Book of the Month.
