The true 1st is the U.K. edition published by Faber & Faber 2005. I purchased a signed U.K. 1st on eBay from the estate of a U.S. book collector.
Kazuo Ishiguro (born 1954 in Nagasaki, Japan) is a British novelist best known for his 1989 Booker Prize-winning novel The Remains of the Day.
Never Let Me Go was shortlisted for the 2005 Booker Prize, for the 2006 Arthur C. Clarke Award and for the 2005 National book Critics Circle Award.
Time Magazine named it the best novel of 2005 and on Time's 2005 list of the 100 Best English-Language Novels from 1923 to 2005, Never Let Me Go was the most recently published book on the list.
Never Let Me Go is a melancholy yet haunting alternate history tale of two girls in dystopian Britain who slowly realize the true nature of their existence. A story of love, loss and the power of raw humanity that will have you questioning the true meaning of freedom long after the book is closed.
Never Let Me Go has been made into a movie that is scheduled for release in 2010. It stars Academy Award nominee Keira Knightly (who also stared in Ian McEwan's Atonement), Sally Hawkins and Carey Mulligan. I'm sure that the release of the movie will increase the value of this book.
