Neal Stephenson, Hugo Award Winning Science Fiction Author

Neal Stephenson was born in Maryland in 1959. He graduated in 1981 from Boston University ... with a degree in Geography and a minor in Physics. His first book The Big U was published in 1984 and his second in 1988 was Zodiac. I'm not familiar with these and could not find listings on ABE for them.

His book Snow Crash ... published in 1992 about a computer virus of the same name, got him noticed. The book is a cult classic difficult to find in a first hard cover edition. It will cost you well over a thousand for a fine/fine copy.

In 1995, he won the Hugo Award for The Diamond Age. What is interesting about this book is that even though it won the Hugo ... a fine/fine/signed version can be had for $100. His 1999 book Cryptonomicon is slightly more expensive. Most likely the first printing of The Diamond Age was more substantial than Cryptonomicon.

I have three first editions of Cryptonomicon, one of which is signed.

Mr. Stephenson's last three books published in 2003 and 2004 were a trilogy known as the Baroque Cycle.

Here is a list of his books:

Title Year Published Publisher
The Big U 1984 ?
Zodiac 1988 ?
Snow Crash 1992 Bantam
Interface 1994 Bantam
The Diamond Age 1995 Bantam
Cryptonomicon 1999 Avon

The Confusion 2004 Morrow
The System of the World 2004 Morrow
