Mystery Book Awards: Edgar, Agatha, Anthony and Others

Mystery book awards have been given to mystery authors since the first Edgar Awards in 1946. Though it wasn't until 1954 that awards were given for both a Best Novel and Best First Novel.

In deciding on awards ... various groups and associations meet every year to determine which authors will receive the awards. An award can have a great impact on an author's career.

Also, an award will almost always increase the value of a book ... and will usually positively effect the prices of the author's earlier books.

Awards are given in several different categories but ...we are listing the award winners for only the best novel and best first novel. There are only so many we can keep up with!
