McGuffey's Reading Charts, revised edition

by Jamie King

This "booklet" was originally published by Van Antwerp, Bragg & Co. in 1881 and then again by American Book Company in 1909.

It is a "photographic reduction" of the McGuffey's Reading Charts. It measures 4.75" wide and 6" tall, with paper covers. It was sent by the publisher to any teacher or school official that was interested in viewing the introduction of the charts.

There is a McGuffey's color chart inside the front cover, with 24 "mini" lessons from the reading charts following the color chart. There are two alphabet charts following the "mini" lessons. One is block print letters and the other is cursive, followed by a multiplication table. The next six pages are instructions on "How to teach McGuffey's Revised Reading Charts". These are basically step by step instructions, even as detailed as to what the teacher should say. The next two pages are titled "Charts in Primary Schools". This discusses what is included in the charts and how they were created, talks also about the revolving stand that can be purchased. The final page is a picture of the revolving stand holding cover photo of the McGuffey Reading Chart book.

There are no page numbers shown. The cover is a pale brown color and the book is held together with 2 staples, (definetly the original). There is absolutely NO writing or MARKS of any kind in this book. There is one small chip torn from the bottom of the cover, with corresponding very small tears in the next four pages, each tear becoming small as the pages go back. The back cover has a small dog ear in the upper right hand corner, and there are normal wearing lines from the book being opened.

I would appreciate ANY information on this terrific small book, including it's worth, (if there is one).
