In Black and White
by: Bob

Rudyard Kipling was a very popular British author and poet. Born in India in 1865, he published several novels and books of poetry. The Jungle Book of course is one of his most famous.

According to Wikipedia:
"he published six collections of short stories: Soldiers Three, The Story of the Gadsbys, In Black and White, Under the Deodars, The Phantom Rickshaw, and Wee Willie Winkie,"

The first edition of In Black and White was published in 1888 by AH Wheeler in pictorial wraps or a soft cover book. It appears that some of the short stories were republished together in 1890 bound together with silk covered boards which would have been more durable.

There was only one example of a book by Mershon by Magiccarpetbooks.com. But it does not look exactly like yours. It has no date but they estimate it was published in 1900. The price was $22. Even though yours is slightly different, it is not a first edition and so would not likely have a high value.

Thank you very much for the submission and particularly for including the picture.

Bob
