Garden District Book Shop

by Marilyn Clement
(College Station, TX)

I love the Garden District Book shop! Everyone is friendly and helpful and there are always more signed first editions available than I can count or buy.

I bought my first treasured signed edition at the Garden District Book Shop which is located on historic property called The Rink in the beautiful Garden District of New Orleans. This was many years ago. I was determined to buy a signed Ann Rice first edition on my first trip to New Orleans. At that time Ann Rice still lived in New Orleans.

The actual street address for the Garden District Book Shop is 2727 Prytania St.

In Greg Iles book, BLOOD MEMORY, the first murder victim, a printer, is found at 2727 Prytania St in New Orleans. I recognized the address when reading this author for the first time. I enjoyed the use of this address, knowing it wasn't a coincidence and knowing the reason the address was chosen.

The shop carries a large collection of regional titles--new and used; design, art, and gardening books; fiction and non-fiction; children's; and signed first editions by many regionally and nationally acclaimed authors. They have book-signings on a weekly basis.

I visit New Orleans every couple of months, but I can also purchase from this shop on-line. I keep in touch through email and subscribe to the shop's newsletter.

Garden District Book Shop

Thanks, Marilyn for your interesting comments and description of the Garden District Book Shop. And also for the nice picture.

I think I visited this Book Shop back in 2003 but I don't remember the name of it. It did have a lot of books and displays about Anne Rice and her books.

Good luck in the contest,
Bob
