Dan Simmons, Science Fiction, Horror and Mystery Writer
Dan Simmons was born in 1948. He has a degree in English from Wabash College. When I first read a couple of Mr. Simmons' books back in 1999, I thought of him as a science fiction writer ... and an author of horror books. His first novel, Song of Kali ... was a horror book which he wrote after a trip to India. (This book won the World Fantasy Award). I have read Hyperion(Hugo Award winner), and also own a first edition bought on Ebay last year. Reportedly, there were only 2,000 books in the first edition which is a very low number. The price has hovered around $200 for many years but has recently started to climb. I've also read, Fall of Hyperion (I don't have first edition yet - I read the paperback). And more recently I've read Ilium and Olypmos. These are science fiction books with literature - the Iliad - thrown in. Very ambitious books. Dan Simmons is also a mystery writer, with three mystery books to his credit. ex-private investigator Joe Kurtz is the protaganist.
