The Prize was first presented in 1969. Today it amounts to 50,000 pounds (over $100,000). It is a very prestigious award.
Selection Process
UK publishers submit full length novels published between Oct 1st and Sept 30th. Judges develop a longlist of 13 books by August. They then narrow these down to a shortlist of six books by September. The Man Booker Prize is announced in October.
