National Book Critics Awards for Literary Fiction

The National Book Critics Awards have been presented each year since 1975.

The National Book Critics Circle consists of members who are book reviewers and book review editors. They give out book awards in six categories.

Kiran Desai won recently for Inheritance of Loss.

Selection Process

The board of directors can nominate books that are published between Jan. 1st and Dec. 31st. The award is open to citizens of all countries ... but the book must be published in the U.S.

Committee members meet in January to determine which books will be short-listed for the National Book Critics Awards. The awards are announced in March of each year.
